The aortic valve is a semi-lunar valve situated
at the root of the aorta receiving oxygenated blood from the
left ventricle to be pumped to the rest of the body (see figures
104, 104-1, 106b). It has fibrous cusps attached to the aortic
root, circling the inside of the vessel root (see figures 25,
104a, 104c). The small space between the attachment of each
cusp is called a commissure.
