This procedure involves the percutaneous insertion of an angioplasty like catheter containing miniature ultrasound equipment into the femoral artery or those in the arm, which is advanced and inserted into the coronary artery lumens and branches. This technique allows visualization of the lipid plaques within the lumen and walls of the coronary arteries (see figure 66 and 67).
