Figure 200j

External sound and aortic root sound are recorded simultaneously with pressures in the left ventricle and central aorta in a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Reverse splitting of S2, is present and the delayed A2 is due to the large systolic pressure gradient and the prolonged left ventricular relaxation.
Right panel: Catheter- tipped micromanometers are recording ressures of the left ventricle and central aorta in a patient with valvular aortic stenosis having marked poststenotic dilation of the aorta; A2 is coincident with the central aortic incisura and separated from the left ventricular pressure by a wide hangout interval of 30 ms. This interval is nearly twice as long as a normal left ventricular hangout interval .
